Development status of dimethicone

When the dimethyl silicone oil is heated above 140 ℃, the polysiloxane is oriented on the fabric, and the hydrophobic group - CH3 faces outward, wherein the silicon atom and the oxygen atom form a coordinate bond and a hydrogen bond with some atoms on the fiber. Therefore, water vapor and air can pass through the fabric, but the water droplets cannot pass through. The hydroxyl group at the top of the emulsion chain is grafted with hydrogen-containing silicone oil, that is, the Si.H bond in the hydrogen-containing silicone oil is hydrolyzed into Si.H, which is dehydrated and grafted with the terminal hydroxyl group of the silicone oil to form a long-chain molecule, and the molecule becomes larger and softer. Increase water repellency.


The hydrophilicity is substantially similar to most commonly used surfactants, and the total polarity of the silicone surfactant can be adjusted by the substitution ratio of the dimethylsiloxane groups. These newly developed silicone products are now being tried as pigment additives.


The excellent ability of dimethicone to exhibit is a factor in its development as an additive. Exhibition is often mistaken for wetness. Spreadability is not solely dependent on the reduction in surface tension. For example, silicone exhibits superior performance over organic fluorosurfactants, while organic fluorosurfactants have lower surface tension than silicone.
